What is EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to process difficult experiences which may have left them with symptoms of PTSD, anxiety and depression.

EMDR is a proven evidence based therapy that effectively works on allowing the brain to "process" certain memories and events which have been held in heightened psychological and emotional threat over a period of time. When the brain and body has "held on" to memories which are distressing it can often present as variation of difference symptoms/disorder including PTSD, anxiety, depression and OCD. The process of EMDR allows these memories to reach a more adaptive resolution in our memory and as such symptoms often reduce quickly.

How does EMDR work

EMDR commences via a comprehensive assessment which allows a plan to be developed. This plan will form the basis of EMDR sessions and will focus on current symptomology whilst considering which past events and memories may be impacting this.

During an EMDR session a specific area will be highlighted to work upon. Clients are asked to keep this memory in mind whilst simultaneously using gentle tapping or following rhythmic eye movements. This process allows the brain begins to reduce its threat level and as such symptoms often reduce as the memory loses its emotional impact.

Client Success Stories

"Amanda is warm, funny and incredibly kind. With her help, I have managed to unravel complex trauma using EMDR. It is the best investment I have ever made in myself and I know that the rest of my life will be better for it. I thought coming back to myself was out of reach, but with Amanda's combination of CFT and EMDR I have not only found parts of myself I thought were lost but have also embraced who I am today as a result of what I have experienced. Thank you Amanda for the gift of me, I will be eternally grateful."

Client Review, 2024

"Through Amanda I got to understand how to process significant events from my past that I had not been able to previously process, EMDR played a key part in this, grounding techniques to allow me to cope with unexpected situations that threatened to set me back, and knowledge of how and why I was feeling how I did. In addition there have been many hours of conversations that have helped me to understand that not all of what I was feeling was bad, not all of how I handled daily challenges was negative; which all contributed to the rebuilding of my confidence. I finished my time with Amanda knowing that my future was going to be better as a result of her help, and that my relationships with friends, family and colleagues were all going to continue to improve. For all this, I am so very grateful and highly recommend her."

Client Review, 2024

"I was having some issues surrounding my emotions and reactions within my romantic relationships and I decided to seek some professional help at the beginning of June. With fortnightly sessions, I felt like a brand new person by the start of October. Amanda was able to break everything down for me in a way that I could understand and then was able to offer me the most amazing treatment which was EMDR therapy. She is very skilled in what she does and was always patient and understanding. Amanda's ability to get to the core of the issues is unmatched and you can tell she is just as invested as you are in your therapy journey. Seeing Amanda is one of the most important and effective things I've done for myself and truly was a lifetime investment, I now have skills I can take away and apply to all sorts of scenarios in my life. I will forever be grateful to her and the EMDR therapy that she was able to provide me."
